The older generation and modern-day technology. Is there a more iconic duo? Okay, maybe that’s a bit of a (stereotyping) reach on our part.
Snide remarks aside, the elderly and technology have always been like oil and water, to say the least. They don’t mix well and most of our parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents aren’t always willing to learn the new ways either.
How many times have your elderly family member approach you to ask for help with their smartphones/tablets/smart TVs/computers and the like? Plenty, we reckon.
Technology Can Help To Improve The Quality of Life of The Elderly
Nevertheless, technology is a wondrous thing indeed. The advancement in modern sciences at breakneck speeds oft contributes towards the exponential growth of technology for use in our day-to-day lives.
And while our elderly may seem to be the generation being left out on modern progress, that doesn’t always have to be the case. As their successors, it is our duty to enlighten the wonders that technology may bring to their lives.
To that end, we’re of course obligated to use technology to improve our elderly parents’ lives. They did raise us after all. Here are some examples of gadgets that may improve your parents’ daily lives:
- Massage chairs
- Humidifiers or air purifiers
- Smart devices like phones, tablets, and PCs
- Healthcare technology such as fitness trackers, heart monitors, automated medical devices
- Automated housekeeping devices
- Smart home integration à la Internet of Things
